here are the “rules” if you missed the first posts:

  • create something using some or all of the colors in the weekly palette (at least three is preferred).
  • “something” = anything.  if you make it, it counts. an assemblage, something altered, a painting, a collage, an art journal page, a book/book cover, a dress, a pair of mittens, jewelry, digital art, a newly refinished piece of furniture, a craft item — anything.  any medium. i just want to see people get creative.
  • email a photo (or two) of your piece with the email subject “weekly palette” to hi (at) altered bits (dot) com but in proper email format with no spaces.  include your name, blog or website address and whatever else you want.
  • IF YOU’RE SUBMITTING SOMETHING PERSONAL, SUCH AS AN ART JOURNAL PAGE THAT YOU DON’T WANT POSTED, PLEASE INDICATE SO.  i’m kind of a mind-reader, but not always spot-on.
  • check back on the last sunday of the month to see if you’ve won as i’ll post the winner’s name, blog or web address, and submission photo (unless they’ve requested it not be posted).
  • feel free to enter every week for additional chances to win at the end of the month.  one submission = one entry.
  • have fun creating!

last week i posted about the weekly palette, a new art/creative/mixed media contest i’m starting here on my blog.  scroll down a little if you missed it.  i was kind of dumb though — i said there would be a winner on the last day of every month, however that only gives a week (thank you to the 3 people who emailed/messaged me!).  so, i’m holding on to what was submitted and keeping it open until the end of october.

last monday i announced “the weekly palette” a monthly contest and give-away i’m hosting and i said that the last day of every month would be the day a winner was announced.  i received some emails asking if i could extend it to next month.  duh!  that’s what i should have done to begin with as less than a week isn’t long enough.  so yes, keep playing/arting/creating/submitting and on the last sunday of october a winner will be announced.  to anyone who has submitted thus far, don’t worry — you’re still in the running.

this month’s prize: a stack of vintage and antique papers/book pages/sheet music, handmade papers, printed papers, etc., for collage or whatever purpose you desire.  this image is just an example of some of the papers but not the actual bundle as i haven’t yet created it.

vintage and antique paper give away

i’m kind of obsessed with color palettes lately for tons of reasons.  i’ve been trying to decide what colors to paint my bedroom for over seven years (it’s still white!) and what to repaint my living room, dining room and kitchen (orangesque, brown and blue).  i also like to think more artistically about it, like “if i only had those five or six paint colors, what would i create?” (or pens or pastels or pencils or papers or fabrics or yarns… you get the point).  on saturday, whilst creating a color palette board on pinterest, i decided i should make my own palettes.  then i decided that i should post them to share with others.  then i decided i should make it super fun and make it like a contest of sorts with prizes, especially now that i’m getting back into the groove of adding yummy bits and baubs to my altered bits site again.

so here it is: weekly palette #1.  vintage watch parts (on antique paper).

weekly palette: vintage watch parts

if you wish to create something using these palettes, be it a painting, an art journal page, a collage, a book cover, a skirt or scarf, an assemblage or anything under the sun, email a photo to me at hi (at) altered bits (dot) com (in proper format with no spaces and such) and you’ll be entered to win a monthly prize.  this month’s price: a stack of 4×6 papers… some vintage and antique book pages and sheet music, handmade papers, printed papers, etc.  just a nice stack of goodness for your creative uses.

i’ll be posting a new weekly palette every monday (some inspired by items i’m listing or have listed in my shop, nature photos i feel inspired by, a vintage photograph that draws my attention, etc.), and will be picking a winner on the last sunday of every month.  every prize will be different.  it could be supplies, digital collage sheets, a gift certificate to my site, original art or prints, etc.  but i’ll always let you know.  if you do a piece every week, you have more chances to win.  and sometimes there will be more than one winner ’cause that’s funner than just one.

happy creating!

actually it’s two give-aways.  but one is now and one is in a week or two.  it’s been awhile and since i’ve been trying to hoard stuff to put on my newly redesigned website (that i haven’t finished redesigning) i feel like i should get some stuff out the door… and what better way to do that than for free!?

vintage paper give away: 50+ book pages

first up, a big, fat bundle of 50+ vintage book pages (in english and other languages), a few collage sheet images (designed by moi) and little bits of hand-made papers (some even made by me)… and other pretty goodness.  all you have to do is comment for a chance to win.  like altered bits on facebook and have two chances to win.

vintage paper give away: 50+ book pages

vintage paper give away: 50+ book pages

next week: a 3d giveaway.  i’m not totally sure what it will be yet, but it won’t be paperly or flat, and it will probably be rusty, old and/or bonetastic (i don’t mean that in a naughty way — i just mean it may have bones it in).  ((well, i suppose to some that could be one and the same though, eh?))

the winner will be announced on wednesday, august 29th.

happy day and good luck, paper lovers!  xx

i’ve been having so much fun making these “two story books” of mine.  i’m a huge dork and love plays on words… which i suppose is obvious.  i have several in the making, but this one is finally complete.

my newest two story book is just in time for valentine’s day, though anatomical hearts are a year-round adoration to me.

the pages off the bottom book are blood red, and the top book’s pages are black.  i love writing in white gel pen on dark pages.

available for purchase on my website, here: http://alteredbits.com/alicia-caudle-art.php

— also, i would like to have a give-away —

this week the fam and i went on some huge adventures, having a hike in an area i used to frequent, tromping past mini-waterfalls and gazing below at the willamette river.  it was pretty, and fun (though quite cold).  afterwards we went to one of my favorite volunteer-run used book stores and i got heaps of vintage foreign language books.  lucky me!  but lucky you as well!  i’ve put together a bundle of over 40 pages of foreign language text and image sheets for you: french, sanskrit, japanese, scandinavian, german, russian… i’m guessing on some of these.  all of these date from 1920 to 1960 and could be yours for collage or other art projects.

vintage paper bundle give away
i will be adding a few more paper bits once the random generator picks the winner — something custom that i think he or she may like, such as vintage scrap, collage sheet bits, vintage ephemera, or stamps, etc.  all you have to do to enter is leave a comment.  the winner will be announced next saturday, the 21st.

good luck!!

xx

a super quick note…

i have chosen the winner of one of kerin gale‘s workshop on mixed media art!  or rather the wee man and i did.

and the winner is….

sherry goodloe of got art? congrats, sherry!  i’ll have kerin get a hold of you to find out which workshop you’d like to take.  in the meantime, i will come leave you a comment and send you an email.

speaking of winners, i have either emailed or posted blog comments to all of the OWOH winners and still have a couple i haven’t heard back from.  hopefully i’m not in your spam folders.  i’ll try one more time but if you see you’ve won HERE and i haven’t gotten a hold of you (i actually tried), please leave a comment or email me.  thanks.

all this give-away stuff has been just WAY too much fun (despite still having a couple of people to notify from the last)!!  and, in that spirit of giving and in celebration of my birthday (on thursday — yeah, crazy pisces girl), i would like to give YOU one more thing.

kerin gale, of remnants of olde and i are in cahoots on this one.  she is the creator of the wonderfully magnificent and extremely inspirational online art group mixed media art.  she is also an amazing teacher!  two of my favorites are resin clay pendants and vintage gentlemen textured resin — i have taken BOTH of these online workshops and there are very few things in the world that are more fun than an online workshop with kerin.  even better, you get to make some really flippin’ cool stuff!  so, this give away is for your choice of either the resin clay pendants workshop OR the vintage gentlemen textured resin workshop.  just leave a comment and you could win when i draw this weekend.

the drawing will be via random generator with finn (my son) as my witness.  he’s a 100% trustworthy assistant (as long as you don’t have change or chocolates on your desk as those tend to disappear when he’s around).  the winner will be posted at some point on the 21st.  (i’m allowed to be flighty and not give an exact time, right?  yep.).

BUT… that’s not all! sweet, sweet kerin has mentioned also that she will also be giving $10 off either the resin clay pendants online workshop or the vintage gentleman textured resin online workshop for the next week (starting… now!) — just put “altered bits” as a note on PayPal from today through the 24th (of feb).

good luck!!
